Firefox will support virtual reality content across the web
Mozilla announced that virtual reality content via the Web will be run by default directly via Firefox browser with version 55, which is expected to reach users by the end of the first week of August.
Web-based virtual reality (WebVR) will work with stand-alone virtual reality glasses such as HTC's Okulos Rift and VIVE.
With the integration of virtual reality support across the web and 3D graphics as well as WebGL, the web browser will become a platform for deploying virtual reality content to it as well as other platforms such as smartphones and gaming devices.
Developers can now start developing virtual reality applications using popular frameworks such as A-Frame, Web engines, and virtual reality frameworks such as React VR.
It's just the beginning, with Mozilla supporting Firefox and Okulos and HTC, but developers can expect their apps and content to work with any virtual reality glasses or WebVR-compliant browser, including Samsung's Gear VR and Daydream glasses and Microsoft's enhanced or enhanced reality glasses.
