Samsung is yet to launch its latest smartphones in the Galaxy J series. In early 2016, the company launched the Galaxy J7 2016 and Galaxy J5 2016 smartphones and later, they also came up with the upgraded Galaxy J7 Prime and Galaxy J5 Prime smartphones with decent upgrades. Now in 2017, Samsung will be soon launching the Galaxy J7 2017 and Galaxy J5 2017 as the successors to last year’s Galaxy J devices. The reliable leakster, Evan Blass has already revealed the design of the new Galaxy J devices. Even the devices are spotted on the benchmarking website revealing key specifications.

While there is no official information from Samsung, the Galaxy J5 2017 (SM-J530FD) is now made available to pre-order in Germany. It is priced at EUR 279 (approx $315 / Rs. 20,000) and comes in Black, Gold, and Blue color options. The device looks same as on the leaks with the inverted curved antenna lines at the top and bottom edges. Instead of the square shaped rear camera module, the new Galaxy J5 2017 comes with vertical camera module holding the rear camera and the LED flash. The company also trimmed down the bezels on the sides, and there is a 2.5D curved glass laid on top.

Below the display is the physical home button with two capacitive buttons on either side of it. While the flagship Galaxy S8 devices lack the front facing fingerprint sensor, the home button on the front of Galaxy J5 2017 comes with an integrated fingerprint sensor. The power button and loudspeaker are placed on the right edge of the device. On the left side of the device, we can spot the volume rocker along with dual SIM card slot and a separate MicroSD card slot. Even the last year’s Galaxy J5 Prime and J7 Prime also came with the same button placement.

The metal built unibody design on the Galaxy J5 2017 gives a premium look to the device. It even comes with a 5.2-inch AMOLED display offering HD (1280 x 720 pixels) resolution. Under the hood, it houses the 64-bit Exynos 7870 octa-core processor clocked at 1.6GHz. It packs 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage that can be expandable up to another 256GB. The device runs on the latest Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box with the customized TouchWiz UI laid on top. Apart from the Google and Galaxy apps, the device also includes Microsoft apps like OneDrive, Excel, Word, and Skype.

Apart from the improved build quality, Samsung also boosted the resolution of the front camera on this new device from 8MP to 13MP. The 13MP rear camera now comes with f/1.7 aperture and LED flash. Both the front and rear cameras can record videos at a maximum of Full HD resolution. Connectivity options include 4G LTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 4.1, NFC, GPS, 3.5mm Audio jack, and a MicroUSB 2.0 port. With the inclusion of NFC and fingerprint sensor, the Galaxy J5 2017 might also support Samsung Pay mobile payment service.

It is backed by a 3,000mAh non-replaceable battery that can give up to 21 hours of talk time. The device measures 146.3 x 71.3 x 7.8 mm and weighs 158 grams. It supports dual SIM dual standby and offers 4G VoLTE for making HD voice calls and accessing faster data speeds. Along with the Galaxy J5 (2017), the Galaxy J7 (2017) might also officially launch soon here in India. Stay tuned on PhoneRadar for more details!
